As part of the irrigation revolution, the Egyptians used sophisticated technology to distribute the water in such a way that crop yields increased dramatically. The drainage systems used to divert rainwater and wastewater from households and baths were also advanced. The book covers all aspects of water in Ancient Egypt\u2014from wells, rainwater, and drinking water to irrigation techniques, drainage systems, gardens, and water organs\u2014all the way to travel and mobility, since the Nile was Egypt\u2019s highway, connecting the entire country over a distance of more than 1,000 km.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our Vice-President, Dr Heidi K\u00f6pp-Junk, who holds a PhD in Egyptology and is an expert on water in ancient Egypt, initiated this book on water in ancient Egypt at the request of the Frontinus Society. The project has brought together a distinguished group of German-speaking and international Egyptologists and Ach\u00e4ologists specialising in the field of water as contributors. These include Dr Henning Franzmeier, director of the famous excavation at Ramses City in the Egyptian Delta. Heidi K\u00f6pp-Junk herself is excavating the water systems at the Temple of Athribis for the University T\u00fcbingenand has taken part in the excavation of the royal tomb of Khasekhemui at Abydos and the pyramid of Pharaoh Sneferu at Dahshur on behalf of the German Archaeological Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
