Jørgen Hansen has presented us with a magnificent publication on the water supply of Hadrian’s Villa for the new year. This brings to a close his years of intensive research on this complex topic. It seems as if Hansen has examined and documented every corner of this prestigious imperial villa. In any case, this publication shines with its insights, both in its text and its illustrations. Documentary photos and drawings, supplemented by historical imagery, make the reader eager for in-depth study even as they leaf through this book. Hansen would not be a Latin scholar if he did not also include a translation from the Frontinus publication (chapters 90-93). The foreword by Mari Zaccaria, archaeologist at the Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici del Lazio, ennobles this publication.
