Students and Early-Career Researchers
The Frontinus Society has set itself the aim of providing particular support to students and early-career researchers who are engaged with the Society’s areas of interest. To this end, the following measures are currently in place:
- Student members, members under the age of 25 and those who are unemployed (upon application) are eligible for a reduced membership fee of 10 euros per year.
- The Frontinus Award is announced every year. The award recognises Bachelor’s and Master’s theses, as well as doctoral dissertations, that deal with the history of water, energy and piping technology.
- Early-career researchers and students may apply for a Frontinus Scholarship for their work if the completion of a term paper, a doctoral thesis or field research requires special financial expenditure that cannot be covered by other means. We can also provide a grant to cover the cost of attending our symposia, excursions or conferences.

Frontinus Award
The Frontinus Award is presented annually. It recognizes Bachelor’s and Master’s theses as well as doctoral dissertations dealing with the history of water, energy, and piping technology. The amount of the award depends on the type of work:
- Bachelor’s thesis:500 €
- Master’s thesis:1.000 €
- Dissertation:2.000 €
In addition to the monetary recognition, the Frontinus Award includes public recognition of the winner and his or her work and a complimentary three-year membership in the Frontinus Society.
Frontinus Scholarship
Early-career researchers and students may apply for a Frontinus Scholarship to support their work if the completion of a term paper, a dissertation or field research requires specific financial expenditure that cannot be covered by other means. We may also award a grant to cover the costs of attending our symposia, excursions or conferences.
