Volume 2: Die Wasserversorgung antiker Städte Part 1
Book series „History of water supply“ - Band 2

Pergamon – Law/Administration – Fountains/Nymphaeums – Building Elements
Ever since large cities have existed, i.e., for 4,000 or 5,000 years, the problem of supplying residents with drinking and domestic water has existed. Continuing from Volume 1, G. Garbrecht first describes the water supply systems of ancient Pergamon, which developed during the Hellenistic and Roman periods from a few cisterns on the castle hill to a comprehensive system with ten long-distance aqueducts. W. Eck’s contribution presents the socio-political conditions and the resulting legal and administrative regulations. F. Glaser presents fountain systems and nymphaeums, and H. Fahlbusch presents the elements of Greek and Roman water supply systems.
The appendix presents the water supply of 12 ancient cities with explanatory texts, including Athens, Ephesus, Jerusalem and Rome.
