Frontinus Award and Frontinus Scholarship
The Frontinus Society has set itself the aim of providing particular support to students and early-career researchers who are engaged with the Society’s areas of interest. To this end, there is now a Frontinus Award, which will be open for applications for the first time in 2027, and the opportunity to apply for a Frontinus Scholarship.
The Frontinus Award is presented annually. It recognizes Bachelor’s and Master’s theses as well as doctoral dissertations dealing with the history of water, energy, and pipeline technology. The prize amount depends on the type of work:
- Bachelor’s thesis: 500 €
- Master’s thesis: 1.000 €
- Dissertation: 2.000 €
In addition to the prize money, the presentation of the Frontinus Award entails—alongside the public recognition of the recipient and the winning work – a complimentary membership in the Frontinus Society.
In addition, Early-career researchers and students may apply for a Frontinus Scholarship to support their work if the completion of a term paper, a dissertation or field research requires specific financial expenditure that cannot be covered by other means. We may also award a grant to cover the costs of attending our symposia, excursions or conferences.
