Manderscheid describes the architecture, technology, and equipment of Roman thermal baths, and H.-O. Lamprecht presents the materials and construction techniques of ancient water supply systems. O. Winkelmann’s contribution addresses hygienic aspects of urban water supplies.
The appendix contains descriptions of the water supply systems of 10 ancient cities, including Aix en Provence, Bologna, Lyon, Mainz, Merida, Nîmes and Segovia.
