De Aquaeductu Atque Aqua Urbium Lyciae Pamphyliae Pisidiae

The Legacy of Sextus Julius Frontinus

Babesch volumes - Band 27

Autor: Wiplinger G., Frontinus Society - ÖAI / ÖAW

Proceedings of the International Frontinus Symposium Antalya, 31 October – 9 November 2014

The volume contains 31 contributions from the symposium’s thematic blocks. The first section deals with long-distance aqueducts and urban pipeline systems in the Roman Mediterranean region. Two contributions address water supplies in arid and semi-arid regions, using Petra and Gerasa as examples. Further contributions address cisterns, Roman baths, the deaths of ancient rulers in baths, the private use of water, and its religious uses. This is followed by hydrotechnical problems and the industrial use of water, including in mills and mining. The volume concludes with an honorary lecture by Marc Waelkens on Sagalassos, the City of Water.
